Raise your hand if you love fundraising events and can’t wait to do a new one for your nonprofit! They’re fun to attend, right? Whether it’s a community run, gala, chocolate fest, or fashion show, you get to see your pals, eat some interesting food, maybe take home some cool bling, and show off your important cause.

My pal Marc Pitman, Executive Director of The Nonprofit Academy, wrote a brilliant blog this week focused on why there may be other more effective options to raise money for your nonprofit. Pay special attention to this question:

“How much are they willing to lose?”

There are organizations that conduct huge events, and raise millions of dollars by doing so! And the CEOs talk about how expensive they are, and how much work it takes to do them well.

The question becomes where do you want to invest your resources in order to maximize impact?

If you know me, you know I’m not a huge fan of special events to raise money. There are a few other reasons to host events, but you better be crystal clear about the intention.  Let’s make sure you aren’t throwing away money.

Read Marc’s article here and let me know what you think….I loved it.  “Help!  My Board wants to do another event!”
