Lately I’ve been asked a lot about succession planning – for both nonprofit boards and staff. So I was thrilled when I saw this compilation of information and resources from Wild Apricot!

#1 There is so much institutional knowledge in their head! And relationships are key to your work so taking the time to talk about what isn’t necessarily on paper is essential.

Bonus Tip from me:

The board is responsible for selecting a new CEO so be sure the outgoing CEO is not overly involved. The board is also responsible for selecting a new President, with input from the CEO. It’s a good idea to clarify roles up front so the expectations are clear.
